“Mapping, like cleaning a house, is a task that never truly ends”
My love affair with digital maps began the day I purchased a navigation bundle featuring a Bluetooth Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver paired with installable map data for my first Personal Data Assistant (PDA), the Dell Axim x50—a precursor to the modern smartphone.
As someone who’s naturally hesitant to ask for directions while traveling, I instantly recognized the value of this technology. The idea of having a virtual map in the palm of my hand, one that made navigating far more convenient than old-fashioned paper maps and a compass ever could, was exhilarating.
This passion for digital navigation is what drew me to contribute to OpenStreetMap (OSM), a commitment I continue to this day. Thanks to the Android app OsmAnd+, I can not only navigate using OSM data but also contribute to the map while on the go.
I am especially grateful to ‘The Apple Team’ for their collective effort in 2018, tackling the colossal task of aligning, designating, and creating new pathways across Angola.
1. My primary motivation for contributing to OSM is to provide valuable information that benefits both myself and others. On a personal level, it’s a platform through which I can express myself in a deeply fulfilling way.
2. As an avid pedestrian, my focus is on mapping amenities that cater to walkers.
3. Ultimately, my ambition is to refine these map elements with ever-increasing precision.

Tips: * Enable GPX traces to enhance mapping accuracy. The centroid of multiple GPX tracks often provides a more reliable road location than satellite imagery used as a background layer.
