Fixing up our town!

Posted by Kyle Bryson on 1 February 2026 in English.

I fell down the rabit hole, learning about OSM, in order to port the map into a video game called Farm Simulator. They suggested I just rip it, and add what I want unsaved before I port, then realized I might as well just contribute to this neat open source database! I actually find it quite satisfying, and hope I’m helping. I’m not sure how long I’ll stick around, but I’m already at the max contribution…

:D I just started contributing today as well for similar reasons!

An website me and friends use to play Hide+Seek on a large scale is based on OpenStreetMap. (To find each other you have to ask questions like “What is your nearest Zoo” … so the OSM data has to be accurate for the website to work)

Welcome to both of you! There’s lots of places to hang out (Global OSM Discord, OSM-US Slack, loads of others) and even more places to map.

Definitely ask questions if you have any.

Happy mapping!

Welcome to OSM!

I’m not sure how long I’ll stick around, but I’m already at the max contribution…

I wouldn’t worry about that too much, the new account rate limit goes up very rapidly, after a few days you’ll have to really try to actually hit it.

@mm_m_mm Jet Lag: the Game?

Comment from mm_m_mm on 2 February 2026 at 14:54

@Taya_S Yes exactly! Using https://taibeled.github.io/JetLagHideAndSeek/ to play Hide+Seek is great, but it obviously needs good data to work well :D

I’m also thinking of contributing to the JetLagHideAndSeek website so one could use arbitrary Overpass Turbo queries for matching & measuring questions and not just the existing categories :D
