I've changed the tag to building=X + abandoned=yes, abandonded: prefix shouldn't be used on buildings

177926960 9 days ago

Thanks for adding these buildings and addresses! As you can see, a large amount of the buildings in Melksham need to be split into individual houses, so your contributions are definitiely appreciated. You can also try enabling 'OSMuk cadastral parcels' in iD's background menu to show property boundaries, which should help identify where to split houses. If you plan on working with a lot of buildings, try the more advanced josm editor with the building tools plugin which makes drawing offset terraces super easy! Happy mapping!

Thanks for making these changes! I've made some adjustments to the access roads here (unclassified roads are intended for rural roads, not access to car parks). The other tags were added correctly, for example the address and opening hours, so thanks for your contributions!

Hey there, thanks for your contributions to OSM! Ideally, when mapping houses, you should draw one polygon/area per property, so for example two semidetached houses should be represented by two connected building=semidetached_house areas. If you go into Background Settings in iD, you can enable 'OSMUK Cadastral Parcels', which will highlight most property boundaries and should help show where buildings should be divided. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, thanks! Happy mapping!

Hi, thanks for your contributions! I've just had a look through your edits, please make sure if you add new roads they don't overlap existing roads or tracks, and are connected wherever they cross/have junctions. I've just made some corrections to adjust the new road you added, thanks. Happy mapping!

I've changed access on all the LVCC roads to private, not customers - please see changeset/177668718. access=customers implies customers can drive their own cars down these roads, (like in a car park), this is obviously not correct & only authorised vehicles may enter.

Hey, I don't think it was right to connect the ends of residential roads to the pavements I mapped, I don't think it's necessary to have connections here given that the pavements are now mapped separately in detail. If a connection is necessary for routing, I would use footway=link with a barrier=kerb node, rather than continuing the highway=residential way onto the pavement. Thanks.

Also retagged highway=give_way entering roundabouts to traffic_sign=give_way

Correction: the real overpass query is https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/2iSW - includes parent ways for loading into josm

Fyi @GPMapper I fixed wikimedia_commons= on the Kazahkstan relation (it was incorrectly tagged wikimedia_commons=CategoryKazakhstan-Russia border), clearly just an autofill error in this case. changeset/177271178

Correction to my initial message: I meant to link this way as an example where sheep can be seen grazing and therefore should be tagged landuse=meadow: way/1466753375
In my opinion the difference between meadow and landuse is not contentious (within the wider community). It's clearly explained on the wiki that landuse=farmland is to be used for areas that are tilled and crops planted. This differs from the wiki definition for landuse=meadow: land vegetated by grass used for growing hay or grazing animals. I don't follow what you are referring to in regards to heirarchy of nomenclature and first principles, but it seems like there's some kind of official designation of farmland that you're adhering to. Just because an area is zoned as farmland, does not mean it must be tagged as landuse=farmland, if its usage corresponds better to another tag. I don't believe it's ambiguous to classify things as meadow, in fact it's more ambiguous to classify everything as farmland. I'm sure the majority of the OSM community would agree with that, it's clearly documented. Unfortunately, individual mappers aren't allowed to apply their own personal definitions to tags, we all have to work together.

Can you please use landuse=meadow instead of landuse=farmland for meadows or pasture? landuse=meadow
For example landuse=meadow you can even see the sheep grazing on aerial imagery...

For your information, these changesets have been raised on the community forums: https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/undiscussed-mass-edits-of-sport-rugby-union-and-sport-rugby-league/140303

Where has this mass edit been discussed? sport=rugby_union has over 7,600 uses, are you planning on retagging every single one? Where is the rationale behind this?

Hey, what's the source for the housenumbers you've added here? :)

Will be useful having these tags organised for the inevitable cleanup of nonexistent railway features (such as way/40596345) 👍

I don't think it would be wrong to add that name, as there is no other existing name for this street. For example, the Eastenders set has all the street names and pois mapped (not using standard tags). Presumably the landuse=residential needs to be changed to some kind of commercial/film studio area, as I didn't realise it was a purpose built area when I originally mapped here.

This is not the correct way to use landuse=farmland... maybe something along the lines of boundary=place + place=farm would work better? (as a relation)
