Buildings in cities are often aligned along the streets, so, when squaring them, it also makes sense to align them along corresponding streets. To do: add a step to the data-preparing script that finds clusters of buildings based on their locations and azimuth to the north of buildings’ walls.

Good idea. Kind of like selecting two nodes on a street plus all the buildings you want to align with the street and then “Orthogonalize Shape” (Q in JOSM).

Exactly, Alan!:) The idea emerged when I was importing buildings in Fremont, CA – it was taking a while to find all buildings in neighborhoods that have the same orientation to apply “Q” (as in JOSM) to them. And then I realized that the clustering technique could do it for me.
