| Whole of Japan moved by Earthquake! | The shift was measured with local GPS stations. So I assume when these strutures have moved, then everything around them has moved as well, roads, forests, lakes, rivers, etc. Of course this doesn't apply to all of japan in unison, but the shift varies regionally. |

| Just starting | Welcome! You should make a screenshot of the map now and every month and so, to monitor your progress. I was totally amazed how fast the map became crowded, a great motivator. When I started my goal was to complete everything within 15 minutes walking-distance. Since I'm living downtown I figured that should take a year - That was fourteen months ago and by now I've mapped vast parts the whole city (population:250k, ca. 10km in diameter). Good luck! |

| Trying out Merkaartor | Thanks for the link, this is a cool game to test one's accuracy. |

| GPS tracks | It's possible to get an idea about the accuracy of your GPS. Chose some outdoor location where there is some kind of a fixed line on the ground. Go exactly along that line and save your log. Do the same a few days later a different time of the day. Then when you've got a couple of tracklogs of that line you can compare them... |

| pre-mapping or not? | Since we don't have yahoo coverage here I use PD maps to sketch the road layout on some piece of paper. This I use for rough orientation and to write down street names and POIs when mapping. You could do the same with Yahoo. This method allows me to get a coverage beyond 95% in the first approach. Only someone living in that particular area/street would be able to fill in the information I missed. |
